Our 2023 Year In Review

This was quite a transitional year full of many high and low points. We were very hopeful for a fruitful year, but the industry had other plans. With the WGA and SAG strikes causing production to come to a halt, a ripple was certainly felt in post sound as well. Although painful, we understand it was a necessary change that needed to happen for our industry as a whole.

But with every hardship, new opportunities arise. We took time to focus on studio upgrades, rebrand, and expand our service offerings.

Welcome Slade Thomas Cooper

It’s a boy! We are excited to announce that Quinn and his wife Lauren have welcomed their first baby into this world. Slade Thomas Cooper was born on October 30, 2023 weighing 6 pounds and 13 ounces. The baby is happy and healthy and mom and dad are doing very well.

Hall Cantrell In Memoriam

This past year we lost a very dedicated member of our sound team, Hall Cantrell. Hall had a big impact on us all, both with his humorous and compassionate personality and his exceptional creativity and professional work ethic. He was always ready to take on new challenges and was full of excitement and ambition. He will be greatly missed, not only for his outstanding contributions to our sound community, but as a true and dear friend.

A Big Year For Film Festivals

It was great to see many of the films we worked on in 2022 get a lot of attention in the film festival circuit in 2023. Some of the highlights include:

Jackson Wild: The short documentary “The Last of the Nightingales” took home two awards for best long-form story in the categories for Climate Change and Natural Science.

Cannes: The short ‘Azizam’ from the Santa Monica College Film Program was nominated as an Official Selection at the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase

Dances With Films: Two features, ‘Daddy’ and ‘Footnotes’, and two shorts, ‘Soil’ and ‘That’s Enough Now Thanks’, all of which we worked on were a part of the festival this year.

Santa Barbara International Film Festival: Two documentaries we contributed to, ‘21 Miles in Malibu’ and ‘Helen | Believe’ both premiered at the festival this year.

‘Spirit of Fear’ now on Amazon Prime and Tubi

Spirit of Fear’ is a horror thriller about of a man dealing with a demonic presence in his house, while attempting to regain his memory by following clues left for him to help rediscover his past. Watch now on Amazon Prime or Tubi.

‘Target List’ and ‘The Hero’ streaming on Tubi

Two projects we worked on from Mad Wife Productions are now available to stream on Tubi.

Target List’ is an action comedy feature film about two cancer researchers who are on the run from an assassin hired by big pharma who is trying to stop them from releasing a ground-breaking cure for cancer.

The Hero” is the story of a comic book artist with Down Syndrome who fantasizes about defeating his high school bully by becoming a superhero and finding the courage to fight his arch nemesis.

Studio Upgrades Complete

Last year we continued construction on our new Dolby Atmos mix room. This past year we updated our main mix room to 7.1 and put the finishing touches on our playback system. In addition we also upgraded our network for the entire studio. Heading into 2024, both rooms will be fully-calibrated and ready for new projects. Photos coming soon!

Continuing Education

We take a lot of pride in our internship program. This past year we took on a number of interns who came through our training curriculum. Some of them we were able to hire for specific projects.

In July, Quinn was invited by the Santa Clarita Public Library Makerspace community program to give a hands-on Foley demonstration. Participants were taken through the process of performing, recording, and editing various actions with footsteps and props.

A Happy and Healthy 2024

It was tough to get through this past year with setbacks. We are excited that projects are starting up again and the industry is now in full swing. We are looking forward to working with many of our previous clients and building relationships with new filmmakers. Thanks for continuing to be a part of our team!
